Cities and buildings are largely shaped by a dynamic flow of interrelated cultural, social, political and economic forces. The proposal tests the nature of interfaces between architecture and its various settings within contemporary city. It explores the correlation and the continuous feedback loop from a city to a project and vice versa.

This projects starts with the coding of the chosen city – Los Angeles, more precisely West Los Angeles – using various data found through multiple channels of research. Two maps are generated, the first a larger scale view of the city and the second a closer neighborhood scale close to the chosen site.

Pixelation and heightfield occurs most commonly in both sets of maps and is therefore used as a tool to create a low fidelity model which is derived solely on the visual property and quality taken from both sets of maps. The qualities of the low fidelity model are in turn used as an inherent property for the proposed project.

The proposed project utilize the blanket quality of the pixelated modules to create a topological typology where it generates both space and circulation system. The ground is also carved to follow the same language and create an entrance into the project.
